Candy Says head to Scotland touring their new EP You Are Beautiful; We Are All Beautiful.

With only a laptop, an SM57 microphone and a garage full of bric-a-brac, Julia and Ben recorded the first Candy Says release, the “lo-fi chic pop” album Not Kings (“possibly the ultimate pop record you won’t be afraid to admit you own” – Even The Stars) and toured as a 4-piece band, with Mike Monaghan (drums) and Elisa Zoot (vocals, percussion). After a self-imposed hiatus during which Julia set up a DIY soap company and both scored the British indie movie Burn Burn Burn (2016), the pair returned de-spired by the 2016 referendum (Juliabeing half French, half English…). During this period they played live as a melancholic 2-piece with a “Brexitwave” sound and started a tape label, Beanie Tapes, releasing local bands on cassette.

They recorded two songs for the Netflix film Close (2019), including a cover of Running Up That Hill which was blessed by Kate Bush herself. At a New Years Eve party on a boat they met Silke Blansjaar, who shared their love for boats, introduced them to Korenwijn (a Dutch grain wine) and became their new drummer. Now a full-sounding 3-piece, Julia’s vocals and electronic production and Ben’s vintage synth stylings combine with Silke’s live beats to form a sound reminiscent of The Knife, Sylvan Esso and The Japanese House.
