The Mink Stoles

49069702_2217789998490138_266197842463293440_o.jpg

A rare and sensual trip through west for The Stink Moles, The Mink Stools, The Mink Soles or The Mink Stoles (depending who you ask) Now that Danimal has relocated to Weegieland, we thought we better pay him a visit, the mad wee badger, and play a gig while we're at it.

We will be showcasing some brand new material on an unsuspecting group of revellers: a veritable mix of style from Psyche Rock to 3-minute pop songs singing the usual tinfoil hat pish about mind control of the masses by the secret ruling elite. And a song about a forklift that doubles as an oven or something.

If you're still reading this pish, then you should definitely attend 'cause it'll braw. Also it's free, so you've no excuse.

A three-piece post-punk band from Glasgow, Pandacar formed in the summer of 2018, bringing together members with years of musical experience between them.

Bonding over a love of noisy music and a need to hit back over recent world events, these self-proclaimed 'good boy punks' are on a mission to make some noise, have some fun, and get it done! With fuzz-soaked basslines, jagged guitar, driving drums, and a punk pathetique attitude, Pandacar are a mix of classic punk protest with their own unique sense of humor.

"Agonised sludgy noiserock that leaks feedback like motor oil… It recalls lots of metal-identified things – Harvey Milk certainly, Eyehategod at times, Moloch perhaps – without ever tipping Pascagoula into clear metal status themselves." - The Quietus

"Some of the filthiest noise rock we’ve heard in a while, which also dips in the sludgier and doomier territories. Think of a sludgier Jesus Lizard." - Echoes and Dust

Support from SAPIEN

Milvus Milvis + Kevin P. Gilday & The Glasgow Cross

MilvusMilvus_VideoShootPhotos_2.jpg

Glasgow based Milvus Milvus blends the world of scratchy guitars with that of ethereal synths and heavy 909 kicks to create layered, rhythmic songs with melodic refrains. Originally meeting at university in Aberdeen and formed in early 2018, this duo blends a love of late 80s electro-synth pop with dense, experimental soundscapes and wordy introspection that encourages thoughtful dancing. Inspired by acts like LCD Soundsystem and Bjork, Milvus Milvus aim to get toes tapping and heads bobbing. Recently featured on Jim Gellatly’s show on Amazing Radio, and with an EP scheduled for early 2019 release, Milvus Milvus are seeking to capitalise on momentum throughout the rest of the year.

Support from Kevin P. Gilday & The Glasgow Cross
Marrying contemporary spoken word to an array of post-punk, kraut and electronica; the album foregrounds an uncompromising new voice amid dynamic compositions. With a lyrical style alternating between witty wordplay and stark confessionals, the album delves into the crushing absurdity of modern living – at once painfully personal and achingly universal.

Wrekmeister Harmonies (USA)

Wrekmeister Harmonies by Peter Shaw.jpg

We are delighted to welcome Wrekmeister Harmonies. Their new album, The Alone Rush, their first as the core duo of JR Robinson and Esther Shaw, is a hauntingly intense and dark meditation on death and isolation, whose concise compositions carry an emotional heft without the orchestrated bombast of their previous four albums.

The Alone Rush retains Wrekmeister Harmonies’ expansive and ambitious aesthetic, blending waves of ethereal keyboards, haunting string melodies, and crescendos of dissonance, but now turns central focus towards Robinson’s deep, rich, and soothing vocals.

Joaquín García (MEX)

Joaquin Press 1 Jose Luis Isoard.JPG

Joaquin Garcia will tell you he writes pop music. To us, each verse has the feeling of a long-lost folk song, but the genre is not important. What matters is that it is brutally honest, it speaks in a truthful way, and within three minutes it has you hooked and wanting more.

In 2012, we recorded his first EP, Over The Last Few Years, as a solo acoustic show live in a garden with a quiet audience of close friends. A year later he was playing with a full band in front of 700 people, supporting Balmorhea at Lunario. He feels as comfortable in either situation because it is always his howling voice, intelligent lyrics and heartwarming delivery that connect the listener with the song.

Rescue Rangers (FRA)

IMG_5513-2.jpg

ince their formation over a decade ago, every day that’s passed has only served to heighten vocalist/guitarist Pascal Mascheroni’s near talismanic-like qualities as a songwriter. A long-serving student and practitioner of classic rock, metal and hardcore punk, the release of the band’s debut album Guitars And Dust Dancing (2010) and follow-up Manitoba (2012) on Trendkill Recordings, deftly showcased the wide range of influences at play on both Mascheroni’s mind and music collection.

The real affirmation of Rescue Rangers’ prowess, however, came in 2009, after the band played a local show with desert rock nonconformist Nick Oliveri. Not only did Oliveri love the band enough to lend vocals to ‘Creeper, The One Who Creeps,’ (from Manitoba) he invited the band to join Mondo Generator on tour across North America that following summer. A fellow kindred spirit and stoic campaigner of high-octane rock ’n’ roll, after one performance in Los Angeles with the former Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age bass player, the band were approached backstage by another cult luminary and equally enamoured Rescue Rangers-supporter-in-waiting, Page Hamilton. At Hamilton’s request, the band completed an extensive tour supporting his legendary NYC noisemakers Helmet across France and entered the studio upon returning to record new album, Join Hate. Released in 2017 on the band’s own F200 Records (and produced by Hamilton), the band’s third release was an out-and-out treat for fans of heavy rock and electrifying songwriting. Ballsy, voluminous and stacked with promise, it was an ear opener and statement on just how far they’d progressed since day one.

Sonars are a two-piece Electro-Psych outfit from the UK and Italy.

The band consists of Brighton-born Frederick Paysden and Serena Oldratifrom Bergamo. Their live performance revolves around their loop stations which they use to recreate their songs layer by layer, drawing inspiration from Alt Rock, Psych Rock and Trip Hop.

Since their debut release in 2015 they have performed over 250 concerts throughout Europe at festivals such as Europavox (FR), Eurosonic Noorderslag (NL), Bime (ES), MIL (PT) and Maifeld Derby (DE), sharing the bill with international acts such as Slowdive, Last Shadow Puppets, King Gizzard, Thurston Moore and Primal Scream.

In 2018 they had official showcases at SXSW (Austin, TX), Canadian Music Week (Toronto, ON) and an extensive UK tour. After a busy festival season, they went on to support Thirty Seconds To Mars and Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park) at the open-air Milano Rocks festival.

From Glasgow’s folk music hive of activity, the Blas Collective emerged in 2009 as a jam with a few friends.  Since then it has become an eclectic evening of folk, jazz, country, blues and some pop covers too.  Hosted by singers Jenn Butterworth, Laura-Beth Salter and Hamish Napier, expect to hear songs from the heart-wrenchingly sad to the just plain ridiculous.  Joined by fiddler Adam Sutherland, percussionist Steve Forman and often a few other musical pals, the group jam from basic charts and create on-the-spot arrangements, guaranteeing that every night will be a different experience – which is just the way Bloc+ likes it!

Bloc+Jam Open Mic

27544804_10155154431072551_3753797286747138445_n.jpg

For the last few years Bloc+ has been running one of Glasgow’s most popular and consistently high-quality open mic nights, thanks largely to  Jamie Sturt and friends, not to mention our incredibly gifted and facially pleasing clientele.

The gear is all ready to go so, if you’re fed up spending Sunday nights apprehensively contemplating the weekdays of early morning traffic, water-cooler small-talk, dole-office appointments or car theft, pop along and enjoy Bloc’s warm atmosphere and cold beverages. Or is it cold atmosphere and warm beverages…?

There will also now be a free beverage in exchange for a performance from you fine folk! If you want a free water that is also available too.

A Monster Hospital Christmas

Every MH is like a mosher's Christmas work night out and this month is no exception. AND there's a whole extra hour to photocopy your bum or whatever Xmas party cliche you like. I'll play 4 Ariana Grande songs because seriously. Merry Christmas!
