Astrophe + Everyday Pharaohs

52833070_988224431386631_2965421948609232896_o.jpg

Led by front lady Alex Pawlitka, Astrophe draw on inspirations that are rarely limited to the alternative rock genre they play. The project was started by Pawlitka as a solo artist in 2012 as an outlet for her to write and perform her own material. Through the following years the project began to grow, guitarist Jack Hughes and bassist George Robinson joined the squad and with drummer Scott Lazenby not far behind. Soon the project turned Astrophe into a collaboration driven 4 piece.

The care free garage-rock vibes of Weezer are evident, along with the emotional lyrics more in line with the likes of Joyce Manor and Modern Baseball.

Alpha Signal + DETER

DSC_0605_edited.jpg

Alpha Signal are a Glasgow based female-fronted Alternative Rock band, having initially got together around May 2018 and have now been active on the Glasgow music scene for around 6 months, playing a number of shows across the city, including showcase events and supporting touring bands.

Recently described by CamGlen Radio's John Fell as "Jefferson Airplane with a modern twist and a good amount of heavy", Alpha Signal are known for high energy live performances, haunting melodies and enigmatic song titles.

Support from DETER
DETER are a 5-piece alternative band hailing from Glasgow, Scotland. Formed in early 2018, the group started blending melancholic guitar arpeggiated riffs with harsh shifts in energy. The band are not afraid to very quickly change between ambient post rock passages to hard-hitting distorted riffs. Mix in emotive and vulnerable lyrical themes and instantly catchy hook melodies – DETER began to find their sound. The group have now released their debut album 'Wither & Fade' in May 2019, featuring their debut single 'Pull Me Under'.

Repeater Presents: Mermaidens (NZ) + Deathcats + Grave Matthews

Mermaidens_Chris Brown_2.jpg

The earliest sketches of Wellington trio Mermaidens, follows the story arch of how most bands start; through long-term friendship and bonding over music that shaped their salad
days. For Mermaidens, it was an eclectic melting pot of PJ Harvey, Warpaint and Fugazi to name a few.

Together, childhood friends Gussie Larkin (guitar/vocals), Lily West (bass/vocals) and AbeHollingsworth (drums) form a powerful trinity of unwavering creativity and relentless work
ethic. Their time together as Mermaidens has been a fruitful one; a timeline consisting of two critically acclaimed albums, being signed to iconic indie label Flying Nun Records, and a
wide range of live supports that include Sleater Kinney, Death Cab for Cutie, Lorde, Mac DeMarco and The Veils.

The internationally acclaimed Perfect Body (which drew a 2018 Taite Music Prize nomination) saw their circle of influence expand to a new, global audience. With its progressive and cinematic stylings on angular post-punk and grunge, Gold Flake Paint said the record “should prove to be one of the summer’s most brilliant long-players," while long-time music critic Graham Reid of Elsewhere confirmed it as “a real listening
experience.” Clash Magazine praised the record for its “Noisy, scratchy, enigmatic songwriting.” But perhaps it was God Is In The TV that explained the commanding presence
of the record best by saying “I can quite believe that some of their tracks have mystical properties.”

Come 2019 and the trio are set to release a body of new work. The first split single 7” You Maintain the Stain/Cut It Open is out April 5th on Flying Nun Records. The band are in a new space. We are in darker, more confrontingly uncomfortable territory.

27544804_10155154431072551_3753797286747138445_n.jpg

For the last few years Bloc+ has been running one of Glasgow’s most popular and consistently high-quality open mic nights, thanks largely to  Jamie Sturt and friends, not to mention our incredibly gifted and facially pleasing clientele.

The gear is all ready to go so, if you’re fed up spending Sunday nights apprehensively contemplating the weekdays of early morning traffic, water-cooler small-talk, dole-office appointments or car theft, pop along and enjoy Bloc’s warm atmosphere and cold beverages. Or is it cold atmosphere and warm beverages…?

There will also now be a free beverage in exchange for a performance from you fine folk! If you want a free water that is also available too.

KLS Power violence, noise & mathcore
A wild, brutal group that will encourage sudden surges of violence!

HOWIE REEVE: "As inventive and playful as it is richly emotional…his approach to bass is beautifully expressive, melodic and thoughtful, but also takes in flamenco-style flourishes, charging post-punk grooves, choppy, percussive passages and one surprisingly violent bout of chaos.”

The Blas Collective

25079159112_b12c7c67b4_b-960x640.jpg

From Glasgow’s folk music hive of activity, the Blas Collective emerged in 2009 as a jam with a few friends.  Since then it has become an eclectic evening of folk, jazz, country, blues and some pop covers too.  Hosted by singers Jenn Butterworth, Laura-Beth Salter and Hamish Napier, expect to hear songs from the heart-wrenchingly sad to the just plain ridiculous.  Joined by fiddler Adam Sutherland, percussionist Steve Forman and often a few other musical pals, the group jam from basic charts and create on-the-spot arrangements, guaranteeing that every night will be a different experience – which is just the way Bloc+ likes it!

STRATA 21 with guests Tyr

d7ff63bbe590c5680f3a756fde781f73.jpeg

Hey everyone, we’re back for STRATA 21! Following on from last year’s appearance as a duo, we’ll be welcoming back the wonderful Tyr as special guests to perform now as a trio. Cameron Thomson-Duncan (trumpet), Tom Stephenson (guitar) and Greg Irons (drums) perform music exploring the live creation of improvised soundscapes through extensive use of minimalism and electronic effects - think Nils Petter Molvaer and Arve Henriksen meets Radiohead.

Graham Costello's STRATA will be back for the second set performing in quartet formation, further developing their music which Clash Magazine has called ”startling, groundbreaking...it explodes definitions to seize fresh space”.

9.15pm SET 1 - Tyr
10.15pm SET 2 - STRATA (quartet)

Think NYC Downlow meets Glitterbox, Defected meets DFA, add shit tons of hip-hop, some underground dance and house with a metric fuckton of bangers thrown in to keep those feet moving.

Brose & Grey want to create the same welcoming atmosphere they've experienced in venues, clubs and festivals around the world. With many LGBTQIA+ and other under-represented artists on the playlist, including plenty of Glasgow's own, we want to reflect that in our demographic. EVERYONE is welcome to come along, be who they want to be and dance to our disco.
